Verla A. Lehmkuhl, 74, of Sumner, died Monday, June 1, 2015, at her home in Sumner.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 5, 2015, at St. John Lutheran Church in Sumner with Rev. William Runaas, Jr. officiating. Private family Inurnment will be at Union Mound Cemetery in Sumner. Friends may call from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, June 4th at Becker-Milnes Funeral Home in Sumner and for one hour preceding services at the church on Friday. Memorials may be given in her name to Community Memorial Hospital in Sumner.
Verla Ann, daughter of Martin and Eldora (Degelau) Heller, was born February 28, 1941, in Sumner, Iowa. Verla received her education in the Sumner Schools. In December of 1958, she was united in marriage with Bill Lehmkuhl, at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Westgate, Iowa. Verla worked at Meinerz Creamery for ten years and operated a daycare in Sumner for many years. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Sumner.
In addition to her husband, Bill, of Sumner, Verla is survived by her five children, Brad Lehmkuhl of Silverthorne, Colorado, Russell Lehmkuhl of San Clemente, California, Wendall Lehmkuhl of Lakeview, Ohio, Lori (Tim) Duffy of Arvada, Colorado, and Billy (Lori) Lehmkuhl of Sumner; one daughter-in-law, Darcy Lehmkuhl of Bennett, Colorado; four grandchildren, Zach, Sarah, Thad, and Hunter Lehmkuhl; two brothers, Ron Heller of Hawkeye, and Gary (Patricia) Heller of Sumner, a brother-in-law, Don Snyder of Alpha, two sisters-in-law, Marlys Heller of Sumner, and Carol Heller of Readlyn, and several nieces and nephews.
Verla was preceded in death by her son, Randy Lehmkuhl in June of 2013; her parents; two brothers, Martin Heller, Jr. andFred Heller; and two sisters, Lavonne Harmening and Joan Snyder.
